Marissa Meyer continues her fan favorite Lunar Chronicles with her Rapunzel inspired, third book in the series, Cress.
Readers will follow Cress, an ungifted Lunar and evil Queen Levana’s greatest spy. Trapped alone in a satellite since she was young, Cress would give anything to escape from her prison and visit Earth. Cress gets her chance when she crosses paths with Cinder. They begin to plot her escape and the destruction of Luna, but forces outside her control leave her stranded with Captain Carswell Thorne, a charming criminal and captain of Cinder’s ship. With their plans destroyed and their team separated, will Cinder and her team be able to stop Queen Levana from taking over Earth?

The world of The Lunar Chronicles is gets more detailed and life-like with the addition of Cress to the series. Some readers may find that there is too much going on to follow it completely. Where Cinder started with just one viewpoint, Cress has six different perspectives that change from chapter to chapter. With one more book to complete the series, readers may find the story too overwhelming with detail to continue.
Also, Cress is slower than its fast paced, action packed siblings. The real action in this novel does not start until the book is half way through. If the slow start does not throw readers off, they will be in for a real treat as the action (and some violence) is upped and will launch readers’ interest to the next book.
Does it have a Young Adult label?: No
Recommended if you like stories with: fairytales, science fiction, cyborgs, robots, family stories, romance, complicated world settings, futuristic stories, war, secrets, forgotten histories
Favorite Quote: “Maybe there isn’t such a thing as fate. Maybe it’s just the opportunities we’re given, and what we do with them. I’m beginning to think that maybe great, epic romances don’t just happen. We have to make them ourselves.”
